5 Quick Ways To Speed Up Your Power BI Dashboard

Power BI is a robust tool to build dashboards from your data. The drop and drag interface executes it fast and easy to design a simple dashboard from scratch. Yet, once things get more complicated, and you add more extra widgets, your dashboard's execution might get reduced to a crawling step.

1. Use Integers Whenever Possible

finding through rows of numbers is a faster way than searching by strings. So when possible, do use integers. For example, it would be enough to use 0 / 1 values alternatively of "Yes/No." Or 1/2/3 rather than "low/medium/high". And be cautious, because a digit is not certainly an integer. You can have 1/2/3 as values, but they can yet be counted strings. So always check the data form in the query editor.

2. Remove Anything That Is Not Used

By combining your filters across different tabs, you can have your slicers, creating tab A filter tab B or vice versa. The dashboard will be faster AND better viewing.

5. Use Top-N Rows In Tables

A big table can create the quickest dashboard crawl. Each time you utilize a slicer, the table will have to display and generate all the data in the dataset. Due to this, Microsoft included the convenient "top-n rows" feature. When turn-on, rather than showing the entire dataset, the table will define itself to N rows. Again, a straightforward intervention that will yield significant improvement.
